InnoWASTEon – green start-ups wanted! 2014
The Green Alley Award 2014 is awarded to three finalists of the entrepreneurship competition
The green economy is growing due to the growing number of young entrepreneurs and new start-ups. In order to find and support new green business ideas, Green Alley and crowdfunding platform Seedmatch organized an entrepreneurship competition in spring 2014. This was the first competition of its kind to focuse on recycling, waste management and resource conservation and, we were looking for new perspectives and innovative approaches to waste, with accepted applications ranging from basic ideas to already formed start-ups.
The 70 contestants impressively showed that recycling really could be a business model. In the end, seven finalists were shortlisted for the first Green Alley Award. They competed with each other in a live pitch event held on the 30th of September 2014 in the Green Alley coworking space in Berlin. The teams had just three minutes to convince the jury of their business idea. All the finalists were dedicated to solving the ecological challenges of our society and building a green future when waste will be avoided and resources will be used more efficiently. But only three of them could win the Green Alley Award.
The winners are:
- RePack from Helsinki with a reusable packaging system for e-commerce
- FoodLoop from Cologne with a mobile app to reduce food waste
- GreenLab Berlin with a vegan and organic fertilizer made from cocoa production waste
Also among the nominees were ideas for unpackaged purchasing, a platform for the convenient discarding of metal and other waste streams, a reusable to-go cup and a platform for reducing electric and electronic waste.
